Preamble
00.1
Purpose
These Standard Operating Procedures govern the conduct of all RAAC training events. They ensure consistency, efficiency, and maximum learning value from every session. All RAAC members are expected to understand and follow these procedures.
01
New Trooper Orientation (NTO)
01.1
Purpose
The New Trooper Orientation is the first formal training event for all new RAAC recruits. It is conducted by the CO, 2IC, or a designated officer. Completion of the NTO is required before a Recruit is promoted to Private.
01.2
NTO Content
Phase 1 — Admin: Introduction to RAAC structure, chain of command, and Personnel File.
Phase 2 — Doctrine: Overview of US/Australian combined arms doctrine and RAAC tactics.
Phase 3 — Crew Roles: Practical demonstration of crew positions relevant to the recruit's MOS.
Phase 4 — Field Exercise: Supervised combat engagement with debrief.
01.3
NTO Standards
A recruit who cannot demonstrate basic crew competence at the end of NTO will be given additional training before promotion. There is no failure — only additional preparation. The goal is a qualified crewman, not a quick promotion.
02
Troop Practice
02.1
Purpose
Troop Practice sessions are regular training events focused on crew drills, formation practice, and tactical exercises. They are mandatory for Active members when scheduled, and strongly encouraged for all ranks.
02.2
Format
Opening (5 min): Roll call, session objectives, safety brief.
Drills (20-30 min): Crew-specific drills — loading, ranging, repair sequences, driving circuits.
Tactical Exercise (20-30 min): Live engagement practice with a set scenario.
Debrief (10 min): CO/FC feedback, commendations, areas to improve.
02.3
Attendance
Notify the CO or 2IC at least 30 minutes before a Troop Practice if you cannot attend. Unexcused absences from scheduled sessions will be noted in your Personnel File.
03
Field Training Exercise (FTX)
03.1
Purpose
The FTX is a full-scale training operation simulating real combat conditions. It tests crew coordination, command communication, and tactical execution under pressure. FTXs are scheduled periodically by the CO.
03.2
FTX Structure
Order Group (ORDERS): CO/FC briefs the operation — mission, enemy, terrain, friendly forces, execution, command & signals.
Preparation: Crew checks, loadout confirmation, comms test.
Execution: Live FTX conducted under ROE.
After Action Review (AAR): Full debrief — what worked, what didn't, individual feedback.
03.3
FTX Standards
FTX participation counts toward promotion eligibility. Members who consistently perform well in FTXs will be considered for leadership roles and awards. The standard expected is not perfection — it is effort, communication, and improvement.
04
Combat Operations
04.1
Definition
A Combat Operation is a live engagement against non-RAAC forces in MTC. Unlike training, Combat Ops count toward operational service records and may earn combat awards.
04.2
Pre-Op Brief
All Combat Ops begin with a brief from the FC covering: mission objective, enemy assessment, rules of engagement, callsigns and frequencies, and contingency plans. Do not enter the field until the brief is complete.
04.3
Post-Op Debrief
After every Combat Op, the FC conducts a brief debrief. Attendance is mandatory. Debrief covers: outcome, highlights, errors, and any service record entries to be made. Feedback is constructive — not punitive.
